Houdini Modeling 101
This is my very first model and render done in SideFX Houdini. These images were generated from less than 24 hours of total exposure to the program.

In-Depth:
What a nightmare. This was my first dealings with SideFX Houdini, and let me tell you, going from Maya to a procedural node based modeling package is quite hard. ( not to mention all the tumbling and all the navigational elements are completely different )

Let me also make it clear to everyone that the description states 24 hours of exposure to the program. This means from the actual time I opened the program ever, to the time I spent learning the program, being taught, and rendering the images above. The 24 hours is not meant to represent 1 day, because I doubt that is possible.

So after getting a grasp of things, I'd like to share with you some of the process. Here's a nice little model of the Vestax turntable in the Houdini viewer:

Now, here's the node tree structure that generated the above image:

Oh, fun times. If you think this is ridiculous, please take a look at the prodecural animation of the 1911 handgun. That node tree made this one look like a pansy.

I very much enjoy modeling in Houdini because of it's node-based operations. Wanted divisions in that gun you modeled, but you've already done 2 million things afterwards, no problem, just follow the nodes back up and alter the parameters and shed a tear of joy. ( You Maya people will understand )
